To Whom It May Concern,

Please accept this letter as part of my application for a Behavior Therapist position. In 2013, I graduated from Michigan State University where I received a Bachelor’s Degree in Education with a teaching major in Language Arts. I continued my education teaching and learning through a graduate studies program in Cape Town, South Africa. In April of 2014, I finished a yearlong internship program in Detroit Public Schools to complete my teaching certification. For the 2014-2015 school year, I taught first grade in a Detroit Charter School. In 2015, I returned to Detroit Public Schools as a kindergarten through fifth grade science teacher. I recently made the transition from teaching to behavior therapy and believe that I have found the true fit for me and my future career. While working as a behavior therapist, I am also attending graduate school online through Michigan State University and plan to complete my Master of Arts in Education degree with a special education concentration by December of this year. I will then continue learning and growing by acquiring my Board Certified Behavior Analyst credential.

Although all of my previous work experience has been as an elementary school teacher, I have always gravitated toward roles where I could work one-on-one with students who have challenging behaviors. For example, when I was a teacher intern in South Africa I had a special connection with a first grader with challenging behaviors. I spent the majority of my time teaching in South Africa working with this one student. We did not have much classroom equipment available to us so we used bottle caps to play and learn as well as outdoor games such as hopscotch to spell words and read. I am still in contact with this student’s mother and I cherish our relationship. Family connections are essential to the success of all students.

Furthermore, technology and hands-on learning has always played a key role in my teaching philosophy. My most recent teaching venture has been teaching English as a second language online to students living in China. Other ways I have integrated technology in the classroom include: Promethean board, iPad, online tutoring and accelerated learning programs. Children love to learn and thrive with hands-on tools and games. I continue to take a modern approach to education and utilize innovative

tools as a behavior therapist. For example, I use specialized IPad applications as communication devices for certain clients. Technology has been a wonderful tool to use as a behavior therapist.

Lastly, I believe that acquiring leadership roles as an educator is a way to advocate for all children. I have always gravitated toward roles that would allow me to create programs to generate excitement about learning. During my past three years teaching, I led an elementary school science department, created a math bee, led a green team promoting our school to reduce, reuse and recycle and planned and supervised multiple field trips. I enjoy learning and growing as a leader and will continue to use the skills I have gained throughout my years as an educator in my future career. I trust that the experiences I have acquired during my years as a teacher make me a wonderful candidate for a behavior therapy position. It is my belief that behavior therapy is the ideal career path for me to continue to make an impact on children’s lives. Thank you in advance for allowing me to have this opportunity. Please feel free to contact me with any questions.

Sincerely,

Molly Davis
